Yaquelin Perez
Board Member
Yaquelin Perez Diaz serves as Policy Director for LAUSD’s Board District 6, which covers most of the East San Fernando Valley, a community much like where she was raised in South East Los Angeles.
Prior to that, Yaquelin served as a legislative staffer for former LA City Council Member Mike Bonin where she covered a variety of issues including on the environment, public safety, and housing & homelessness. Before that, Yaquelin worked as Policy Manager for Learning Rights Law Center, an education rights non profit focused on advocacy, legal representation, and parent empowerment through legal rights training.
Her interest in political organizing and public policy is tied to her upbringing and love for Los Angeles where her parents immigrated from Mexico. She is interested in work that raises the standard of living and advances opportunity for all Angelenos, especially working class children and families.
Yaquelin attended Harvard University where she received a Masters Degree in Education Policy and Management, but remains a Bruin at heart and attended UCLA where she received Bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and Psychology.
In her free time, you can find her making a quick stop for iced coffee before her long run or rearranging her collection of modern art and latin american literature books, which she hopes to actually finish reading someday!
